eCBT Mood(c) tries to help people who are feeling down or depressed to feel better by using the scientific principles of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). eCBT Mood can also be used a uniform, structured adjunctive support intervention for clinical trials of antidepressants or other therapies for depression.

Electronic CBT (eCBT©) has been used both as an adjunct to traditional psychotherapy (involving a therapist and patient), as well as a stand-alone intervention to help people address their problems. eCBT is not replacement for traditional psychotherapy, or for antidepressant or other medications used to treat depression. Instead, eCBT aims to help people learn how to first identify and then to challenge the distorted thinking that fuels depression. By challenging distorted thinking, it is possible to improve mood, and break the downward spiral of negative thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. By systematically tracking daily and weekly depression severity, it is possible to track progress over time, and also share those results with loved ones or professional caregivers.

ABOUT COGNITIVE BEHAVIORAL THERAPY (CBT)

At the foundation of CBT is a simple idea – the things that we think influence our moods and our behaviors. In depression, thinking becomes distorted and dysfunctional, leading to a downward spiral of painful feelings and behaviors. The feelings and behaviors that grow from these distorted thoughts serve to sustain and deepen depression. This painful web of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors is what CBT seeks to help untangle.

CBTs history goes back more than 40 years, to pioneering work done by Dr. Aaron T. Beck and others who developed an empirically-based, short-term, structured psychotherapy for depression. Since that time, it has continually evolved, been refined and expanded by a generation of Clinical Psychologists and other professionals. Today, CBT represents a robust, scientifically proven system of psychotherapy that can be effective in helping people deal with a variety of problems, from depression and anxiety disorders, to coping with chronic pain and substance abuse.

Pros and cons of eCBT Mood app for iPhone and iPad

eCBT Mood app good for

Company promptly (<24 hrs on a holiday weekend) answered my questions, assured they were not collecting/sharing data, and said they would be adding my concern to their FAQ section. So-Im impressed with the application & the company. Thumbs up!
This is wonderful app, save me from having to do it on paper. I have been doind this on paper since completeing an intensive out patient program. I wish it was also downloadable to to my droid, but until then I shall happily use it on my IPAD.
Thank you so much for this app. Ive been using CBT ever since reading Feeling Good. A CBT iPhone app is such a great idea and is so helpful. I cant wait for more apps from you especially the diet app!
Ive been in therapy for about two years, and E CBT is awesome for when Im on the go or dont have time to write. I track my mood every day. My therapist and psych doc always ask to see it. Its a very valuable tool for anyone already familiar with CBT.
Really helps me out with good advice. Seems to open up with no problems.
The little cartoon therapists are cheesy, but this tool is actually very useful and easy to use. When feeling distressed, I always think, "This app wont help," but it often does! The questions are well phrased.

Some bad moments

I wish I hadnt spent money on this app. Look carefully at the screen shots. That is basically all this app does. Its multiple choice box after box. I really like the CBT concepts but this just isnt something Ill use. My hand made index cards are actually better.
App keeps crashing - what good is it if it wont work more than 10 seconds??
After I hit "next" on the initial screen, it shuts down unexpectedly. Really disappointing for an app I paid for.
Cant use it because it crashes when I hit the next button to open it! Dont waste your money.
Havent been able to use because it crashes immediately upon opening!
Crashes every time I open the app. Please fix this app, would like to use an app that I paid for
